Behind the curtain: a peek at our blogger

Hello and welcome fellow bloggers! My name is Savannah and I am in the Strategic Communications Graduate Program at Troy University. I attended Auburn University from 2013 to 2017, where I graduated with a degree in Communications. Throughout college, I found that my strengths were communicating with people and building relationships. I worked for the City of Auburn as a Community Programs Coordinator Assistant. In this position, I had the opportunity to interact with a wide variety of people in the Auburn community from children all the way to senior adults. At the same time, I also worked for Tigers Unlimited where I was an Executive Suite Ambassador in the stadium on gamedays ensuring that all of the suite holders experienced superb hospitality. These jobs, paired with my studies, confirmed that I was meant to be in the communication field.

While this blog may be a course assignment, it allows me an opportunity to communicate with a wider audience. This is an opportunity I will not take for granted. Throughout this course this term, we will be discussing strategic communications and emerging media. I will then take these course concepts and readings and relate them to today's world. We are seeing the rise of artificial intelligence, digital communication streams, and social media platforms. This blog will dive into how our strategic communication goals will evolve and change as the media we are using changes. My goal for this blog is to open the lines of communication and to offer an outlet for comments and feedback that will foster growth in our communication skills.

As I start this blogging adventure, I plan on posting weekly. Hopefully, this will become a core part of my routine and blossom into more, but to start, we will have weekly postings.

So why a communications blog? Well, during my undergrad, and even after, I was always told that I took the easy route in college by choosing Communication as my major. While friends were majoring in engineering or accounting, I chose to delve into the communications field. There's something so interesting to me about the many different ways that people communicate with one another. There are multitudes of theories behind communicating with people and spreading messages. This was fascinating. Learning how one simple shift could impact the way my message came across felt like I really had a secret weapon that others who were not Communication majors did not have. The concepts I was learning in class I was actually using in my everyday life. Even when I did not have communication in my job title or role, I was still using communication theories to help me succeed. Creating this blog allows me to continue those discussions and potentially shift the way that people view the communications field.

So, if you have stumbled upon this blog from another site or a search engine, welcome! Be sure to follow along at https://strategizewithsav.blogspot.com/ for the weekly content. I can't wait to interact with you and hear your thoughts on strategic communication through emerging media.
